Ready-to-go-Blog Banner

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original Color Palette

Other Color Choices

Do you ever find yourself in a 'groove' in what you are choosing to create? This past couple of weeks I've returned to a passion to create blog banners. I know occasionally I benefit from seeing something complete before I decide to buy it. Or, at very least, I need to see examples of other similar items. So my thinking is that if I feel that way, it's probably true for other artists, and it may be particularly key for artists because of the visual focus many have.
Viola's kindness of providing a free image (the stately woman that appears in the left hand side of this banner) inspired the other 30 plus images that went into creating this digital banner.
Different shades of greens and turquoises mixed with golden hues became my color palette and it is one of my personal favorites. But, I also am fond of the other palettes I created after I finished the digital composition.

The above image is an example of how the banner might look in context with a background and coordinating sidebar images. (I think it's better viewed large)

This banner will be available on Etsy later today and ready for customization. Thanks for visiting.

Touch Life

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's behind this digital collage:
Four years ago my partner and I attended a week long meditation course in California lead by Deepak Chopra. It was then I was introduced to Rabindranath Tagore, a philospher I had previously never heard of. Occasionally I read some of his thoughts and this morning I stumbled upon this:
Rabindranath Tagore - The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers. It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow. I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment. from Gitanjali
This lead to me exploring an 'exercise' in words I was taught by Nick Bantock at one of his workshops I attended in 2007. Simply explained, the students pulled two unrelated paragraphs and joined them together, superimposing the nouns from one into the other. Once completed then using the modified paragraph becomes the impetus for created a visual rendition of the words.
Instead of this, I decided to find a poem within the above quote Here it is:
My mind's eye
measures life into earth
Blades break into waves of flowers
Life that is ocean of flow
Made glorious
Touch life.
The collage then followed....
It's a fun exercise and a good 'starter' if you are ever stuck with a blank page in your journal or canvas on your easel.

Love Will Keep Us Alive - Banner Change, Postcard and New Digital Collage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Love Will Keep Us Alive 20 x 28 inches - Digital
(click on image to view large)
Today I decided to take some time away from blog designing for others and create a sustained digital collage. I began early this morning and so it took me a full day to create this piece. Because I decided I wanted it to have the pixels that would allow it to be printed large (300 dpi and 20 x 28 inches) this also adds to it being a very lengthy process. I went through four different layering processes for a total of over 78 separate images to get to the final work below and also a new banner. I couldn't believe my eyes a few weeks ago when I came across another digital collage I had posted here that was up on a site from Indonesia. So, that's why the watermarks are on the one above. (It's also how I decided to make the collage into a blog header!) During the day, I kept returning to a song in my head "Love Will Keep Us Alive" by The Eagles. It wasn't long before the lyrics and the image began to merge. Here are the lyrics - I was standing All alone against the world outside You were searching For a place to hide Lost and lonely Now you've given me the will to survive When we're hungry...love will keep us alive Don't you worry Sometimes you've just gotta let it ride The world is changing Right before your eyes Now I've found you There's no more emptiness inside When we're hungry...love will keep us alive I would die for you Climb the highest mountain Baby, there's nothing I wouldn't do I was standing All alone against the world outside You were searching For a place to hide Lost and lonely Now you've given me the will to survive When we're hungry...love will keep us alive

Here's the postcard which is close to the collage with the addition of a few mail art elements:

SaturdayVille's Artist - Shannon Sawyer!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mixed Media Artist, Shannon Sawyer sent me this mouth-watering card after some of the recent design work I've done on her blog "SaturdayVille". It's not surprising her publications in Somerset along with other print media, featured artist articles, and internet sites are numbering close to 20! From my point of view, one thing that places mixed media artists at the head of the pack, is their attention to detail, eye for composition, color theory and impeccable 'finishing' - crisp and finished edges, high resolution images, textural variety - to name a few. Shannon's work is 10/10 with respect to all of these details - and then some! Surf over to SaturdayVille and you'll see what I mean!
Thank YOU Shannon! It's a privelege to work with you.
ps - if you run into problems trying the hot links to Shannon's blog here, I don't know what the problem is!! But her link is www.saturdayville.blogspot.com
