Kuxi K'aax - A Dream Come True

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today I had the surprise fortune of fulfilling one of several goals on my list of things to do before I die! This experience was near the top of my list. With very little planning ahead, we (my partner Roger and his wonderful son Tynan and daughter Jessica) visited "The Jungle Place" - the home of Joel and Heidi and their 13 rescued spider monkeys, 14 cats and 4 dogs...oh and their 3 Royal Toucans (also an endangered species) . Their sanctuary is located on a 20 acre parcel of jungle between Tulum and Akumal in Quintano Roo, approximately 40 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen. It is not well-known nor advertised to any degree in Playa Del Carmen and so when Roger mentioned that Tynan and Jessica wanted to go on a 'tour' of some sort on Wednesday, I went for a surf on the internet to see what I could find that wouldn't be an overpriced and trampled 'tourist trap. ' Lucky for us, they had one opening today and we scrambled to get to their home by 1 pm .
For their 'story' - you may like to visit The Jungle Place by clicking the same here But, if your interested, I'll be slowly downloading the photographs Heidi was kind enough to take of us with 6 of the female spider monkeys (including their first baby born two years ago) So please come back again to see more photos along with more details of our visit and the history of these adorable primates and their loving parents Heidi and Joel.Above is Nena with Jessica. Nena has not been able to find a suitable male to mate with in her current group, which has caused her to over eat. Sound familiar? Poor girl - she looks like she is ready to give birth, but when Heidi asks her if she has a baby in her tummy, she just looks down and pouts. They believe they will have to bring some new males in eventually hoping she will find a suitable mate.
Tynan with what looks like Luna (the 2 year old)
I absolutely adore this photo - especially the 'matching profiles'!
Roger and I with three of the females, one of whom had tried seconds before to unzip the zipper to my shorts.
Roger was definitely very popular with the ladies who had a couple of little fights over who would find a spot in his lap!

A NickB-WannaBe Project

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was a ton of fun to create - the inspiration was from none other than Griffin and Sabine's Notebook by Nick Bantock - he created a poster with a ceremonial spinning top - this is my interpretation. I will be hosting a swap called the Bantick-tock-Copyswap probably some time in the fall. I am not encouraging any copyright infringements here however - just promoting some fun creating a similar style to Nick's. Email me if you are interested at twodressesstudio@shaw.ca

OYDLOOF

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The inspiration for creating the above came from surfing over to Elizabeth Bunsen's blog where new richly home grown colors are posted each day - her site has quickly been one I look forward to visiting! These are all remixes' of a postcard I have created for the Recollection Parlor. Which colors combo do you like?

The theme was universe - it's the alphabet - my letters this month are I and J - I'm reading Ekhart Tolle who has reminded me we are NOT our thoughts...and thus the Descartes quote.

First Postmaster

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This, the second of two photos published in the IoM Daily News today was recently recovered from the bowels of an old freight carrier docked at the Berth Marina (the capital city of Morpharchengigel.) Speculation from the oldest living Morpharchian suggests it has been tampered with since the original photo was taken. It is believed to be the first Postmaster on our islands - his name - Arley Snooker.

Morpharchengigel's First PostMistress

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Axelia Snooker is still highly praised on the islands for being the woman initially responsible for training the famous Parrot Carriers to fly mail over from Japan. Devoted wife to Arley, she grew tired of his frequent trips away from their cottage to sail the mail to Japan. His continued absences brought on a bout of melancholy that lasted, some say, for almost 5 years. To soothe her weary soul, Axelia would often sing her frustrations aloud each morning as she baked her morning bread. She was a lonely soul. Unbeknownst to her, the Snooker's pet parrot whose cage was situated next to the stone oven, took pity on the poor wife. One day out of the blue, Parentheses snagged the mail right out of Arley's arms as he was preparing for another sail. Within hours reports of the bird arriving in Tokyo, mail bag in tow arrived. That's how it all started. Parentheses soon recruited other Macaws until Arley was able to retire. So instead of the daily grind, Arley along with the now much happier Axelia and little Claire would instead engage in games of chess and tiddleywinks, between their sips of tea and afternoon naps until Parentheses (the lead parrot) returned with the evening news and often, a letter or two. The Snooker's cottage still stands although one must travel for ever and a day on elephant back through the Old Growth Forest of Vines and Giant Tulips to catch a glimpse of it. I'll snap a photo to share with you next time I'm over there.
