A Tribute to Joseph Cornell

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to everyone who so warmly welcomed me back to our art blogging community!  It's good to feel love!

In September, Hollie from Holliewood Studios released a kit paying homage to Joseph Cornell and his famous 'boxes' or assemblage.

 Joseph Cornell

I've long been a fan of his quirky and magical collections of disparate objects and Hollie obviously is too.  The images she gathered together have endless possibilities.

Anyone who enjoys creating digital art would not want to miss this kit titled "Bird Boxes".

Jumping back in!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What better way to get back into blogging by just JUMPING IN!

In the back of my mind I've been composing a reintroduction to my blog, and all that seemed to produce was more procrastination!

I have a great reason to blog this Monday morning - to share three digital collages I created for Marsha (Tumble Fish Studio).

98% of the images are from a new kit she released today "Autumn Junque" - you can purchase it at Deviant Scrap - here!

I'd like to promise I will be back tomorrow or sooner with more posts on artwork I've completed over June, July and August, but ...you know... Murphy's Law!  It's a plan!

Regardless, good to be back today and looking forward to getting caught up with the on-line art community friends/blogs.

Thanks for stopping by!

I didn't plant any annual flowers this spring....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.....   My heart wasn't into it as I knew there would be on-going work on our back deck all summer and  they'd no doubt either take a beating from being moved around, or be eaten by the deer as per usual.  I did however buy and plant a few perennials - an Engelman's Ivy to grow up our arbor as well as this White Oriental (Royal Wedding) Poppy.   It bloomed today.  I've grown oriental poppies before that were the size of dinner plates.  This one however is much smaller approximating the size of a  tea cup saucer.

AOEDE (Lisa Sniderman) and Dodge Dart Commercial Contest - YES!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*image from ReverbNation

Hi All!

I must apologize for being absent from my blog for so long and then popping up only to ask a favour!  But it's an easy favour and with your help, it could make a big difference in the life of a friend - Lisa Sniderman, also known as Aoede.

She is currently very close to winning a contest that would put her in the finals of creating and recording a song to be featured in a Dodge Dart commercial!

All that is required is for you to press on the image below (beginning with ...500 Artists...) which will then  take you to the Dodge Contest Facebook page where you can download her song and in doing so, VOTE for her.

It's such a funky song, and if you like Feist, I can almost guarantee  you'll like Aoede's (Lisa's)  music !!!

Thanks and see you soon!

Teasers are Us and The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of weeks ago now, I received an email from a manufacturer  who had seen my work via Cloth Paper Scissors.

He wanted to introduce me to a new product that will hit the press in July 2012.  We eventually arranged a teleconference and I agreed to test the product for them.

I've tested product in the past, but THIS has me  excited!

A few of you may recall my Eleanor Series (see last image below) I began 3-4 years ago. My fascination with combining and collaging images like that old series has never waned. AND, this product was exactly what I wished I would have had way back then!

I don't usually create posts with 'teasers' - but right now, I have no choice but to just give you this sneak preview - including my new blog header.

So stay tuned and over the next few weeks, as I'll be sharing more information about this tremendous new product!  In the meantime, comments with feedback are appreciated and will be entered into a draw for another giveaway!

When I was creating this I wasn't thinking at all about shopping this weekend for bedding plants because it is the busiest weekend of the year and I'd rather wait until next week...obviously my thoughts surfaced via my muse who thought differently!

and of course, 'the moo!'

Marion's Annual ATC Project

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every year, Marion, a fellow mixed media friend, hosts an exceptional Artist Trading Card Exchange that I always participate in.  It's really the only time now that I make ATC's, so I look forward to it!   This year's theme is  "My Body is a Cage."

At the same time she announced this year's exchange, I was creating "My Zetti Self" for part of of a challenge via my  creative team work at Tumble Fish Studio and another digital collage (pictured below).   It seemed like a perfect opportunity to combine these with Marion's theme.

 I started with this.....

Then went "Zetti" with this......

..... came up with this.....

and finished with these.   They  are 3.5 x 2.5 inches (cut and paste)  and have 14 pieces each.

 Back of ATC

The partial quote on the ATC is from Mayo Angelou and the entire poem reads:

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

The free bird leaps
on the back of the win
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and is tune is heard
on the distant hillfor the caged bird
sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
an the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Happy Weekend and to my Canadian friends Happy May Long!!!
