Woops!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I forgot to post my 'junk find of the year' photo as promised on Friday.  It's a printer's drawer that I purchased for a measily $10.00 - I have a 'thing' about boxes, compartments, and vintage things and my eyes probably bounced straight out of their sockets when they landed on this.... 296 little framed shelves - if I decide to hang it - or 296 spaces for my smaller junk! (which might be enough space...for now!)   You see, it's not hoarding if it's organized!  In case you didn't know it's just a side effect of being a mixed media artist!!  No, I'm not defensive.

Here's a few snapshots of a project I wrapped up a few weeks ago - one that I didn't know I was even signed up for...and well, I'm still not sure I was.  But, I wasn't going to argue - an Autumn/Halloween themed bookmark swap...so out came Eleanor again... times 30 or so (it's all one big blur now)

This was a collage I had completed about a year ago that I altered into the below image -

Apart from adding some images of leaves and Tumble Fish Studio - a border, number, the 'eye'  and the figure of the young boy, bottom left, I added some german foil scrap, and heat embosssed some leaves, over top as well as added a sparkling little ruby to her pointer finger.  Then I added a grommet and what isn't pictured here is the fiber I strung through the grommet.  Below are the digital versions....

Finally, a project that I've stumbled over, under and around for several weeks.  Now complete. What I had in mind and what transpired are two entirely different ideas.  The 'concept' (loosely stated) was to create an image that depicted unlocking one's dreams...to find a way to interpret their meaning...this proved to be a much more difficult notion to illuminate visually!

What does show up nicely is the hand-dyed doilies that I purchased from http://www.lusciouslayers.etsy.com/ aka Lorraine of Creative Daily

And finally, I made an envelope recycling a calendar image, along with a tag and note from my new blog header....so several of the elements in this project were recycled...to appease the Gods of Recycling. Now I can sleep guilt-free!   The ribbon looks like jute, but it is actually from Mudhound Studio - hand-dyed silk fibers.  It has an amazing patina.

Thanks for visiting!

Butterfly Effect Update #6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We had 5 butterfly landings this week, bringing the total arrivals to 36!   And a geographically diverse group too -   Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, England and the USA!

Once more, each beautiful butterfly delivers a dose of gratitude and lightness, regardless of the weather!  Thanks to each of the following generous people for your acts of kindness -

Debby Harriettha
Ann Baker
John and Lee Hynes
Sherry Ann Ellison
Shanti Groningen

A couple of gentle reminders please............

 1) Please no sparkles - unfortunately one arrived this week and I debated whether to send it back.  Eventually I decided I  will send it along with the others to the museum and let them make the decision.  I'm quite certain the reason why they established this rule was because the glitter 'travels' onto everything else.
2)  Please remember to include your email address and your blog address (if you have one) in your envelope.  Also, if possible include your name and email on the butterfly itself or attach a tag.  This isn't necessary, but it is a way to ensure each butterfly is attached to its creator.

The deadline has now been established - NEXT YEAR (as in approximately 14 months from now - DECEMBER 31, 2011   In other words, LOTS OF TIME to join in!!

Here they are!

Collage Obsession Challenge #28 - CORSETS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was such a comical photo I couldn't help but create my own version for this weeks' Collage Obsession

Here's the original photograph -

Textural Tantra....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last week while photographing 'the butterflies' I took advantage of having a fresh set of batteries in my camera and captured a few additional photos that seemed to share a common element - TEXTURE.

Lisa J.'s  (Mudhound Studio) butterfly arrived several weeks ago with textures that made my mouth water.  Not only was the butterfly sensational, but she had wrapped a beautiful thin hand painted silk yarn fiber around her package - something I had never seen before.  I zoomed over to Lisa's Etsy shop and placed an order.  It arrived last week, beautifully wrapped.

This is Lisa's photo (taken from her Etsy shop)

Below - a fabulous collage sent to me from Patty S. ( Magpie's Nest  )  Again, what a beautiful display of textural elements!  Thanks Patty!

And this beautiful handmade paper she wrapped her package in - maybe she'll share her technique for achieving these beautiful impressions???  Thanks Patty!

In August I received this beautiful 4 x 8 skinny page from Viola at ( Saray-Viola )  posted below.

It was Viola who  first inspired me to get out the sewing machine and begin to work with layers of fabric, images, buttons, lace..... Her work is always amazingly detailed and textural -

And finally,  a skinny page I completed several months ago as a cover page  -

Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for my junk find of the year photos tomorrow PLUS the latest incoming butterflies!

Digital Tumbles with Tumble Fish Studio

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marsha (or MamaFish of Tumble Fish Studio) has added several new jpg/png collage sheets to her Etsy shop over the past several weeks and I think I am her Number One fan!  The quality and detail of her privately owned images as well as the content is always second to none.   The images are of such high resolution that the crispness and clarity are as good if not better than what you see below at 8 x 10 inches.

Below are a series of digital collages made primarily from her images.  Check them out at http://www.tumblefishstudio.etsy.com/ - the price is right too!  I;ve been playing with the idea   of working on a collection of these as greeting cards for friends, family and maybe even for sale in packages.

Butterfly Effect UPDATE 5! Video, children and more!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With another week into our Butterfly Effect project, I`m very excited to let you know,  butterflies continued to arrive bringing our total now to  an even THIRTY!  This week brought the arrival of butterflies from the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada and from these warm and loving people -

Colleen Gannon
Nate Gannon
Brooke Gannon
Carol Henley
June Macfarlane
Frieda Oxenham
Kimberly Rogers
Patty  Szymkowicz

THANK YOU!

Not only did the varied mediums continue to surprise me (hand blown glass, broken mirror, beautiful fabrics, and assemblage, and other textures and materials I can`t even identify!) but we had our first two butterflies from Nate and Brooke Gannon  ages 3 and 7.  A very special thank you to this brother and sister team and to their Mom Colleen who I leaned on to participate.

Below,  snapshots of Nate and Brooke busily creating their butterflies -

And one other FIRST I was delighted to see, not only to help spread the word about this project but also because it is just AMAZING and just simply entertaining  to watch this video.  SUZI BLU not only created a fantastic mixed media butterfly, (see below)  but she videoed the process which you can view here.     And,  ANOTHER first - Suzi`s finished butterfly landed on her cat!  Thank you so much Suzi!  I look forward to the opportunity to see it firsthand!
